Civil registry

The Mantua State Archive holds the Napoleonic Department of Mincio Civil Registry from 1806 to 1815. The Mantua Province Civil Registry of the Italian Period is also available, and it includes the duplicates of the birth, marriage, death and citizenship certificates and its alphabetical indexes. The documents go from 1866/1871 to 1900 and the following years, but there are some gaps due to the poor state of conservation of some files at the Mantua District Court. In 2014 the archives from the Italian Civil Registry (1866-1948) arrived, there were also some gaps among them. Last, there is an “Israelite Communities” Civil Registry of the Mantua Province that cover the years 1826-1845 and 1861; the “death certificates of jewish soldiers” files are available for 1855. The documents have been gathered together at the Mantua Provincial Branch series in 8 envelopes.

Army census

L’Istituto conserva le liste di leva (classi dei nati tra il 1839-1846 ed il 1941), riferite ai giovani chiamati alla visita militare, con Leve militari austriache e italiane (1839-1866) e Leve militari (1853-1941).

Recruitment number and military draw number

I ruoli matricolari documentano gli effettivi servizi resi dai soldati nati in provincia di Mantova e gli eventuali eventi che hanno modificato la posizione degli stessi nell’ambito della carriera militare. In particolare:
Distretto militare di Verona. Ruoli e fascicoli matricolari, classi 1914-1937, con antecedenti.
Distretto militare di Brescia. Ufficio documentazione e matricole. Ufficiali appartenenti alla provincia di Mantova, classi 1870, 1896-1929, con lacune.

La banca dati, costituita indicizzando circa 180.000 nomi tratti dai registri delle liste per la popolazione maschile nata tra il 1847 e il 1900 e residente nei comuni della provincia di Mantova al momento della compilazione delle liste stesse, è consultabile sul portale Ricerche Familiari di Lombardi nel Mondo. Presso l’istituto è inoltre possibile consultare anche le immagini dei ruoli matricolari dei soldati mantovani delle classi di leva 1838,1848,1851,1866-1899 e delle relative rubriche, documentazione attualmente conservata presso l’Archivio di Stato di Verona.
